Description
Louis Roederer is a family owned Champagne house farming a large estate across the region's best crus. This vintage cuvée is made only in years judged worthy of it, blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a single harvest. The wine goes through its second fermentation in bottle and then rests for several years on the lees, the slow autolysis that gives Champagne its bread and pastry complexity. It is finished as a brut, with a low dosage that keeps the focus on fruit and structure.
The wine is pale gold with a fine, steady stream of bubbles. The nose moves from white peach and lemon to pear, then into toasted bread, hazelnut and a creamy richness. The palate is dry and layered, with firm acidity, a fine mousse and a long, savoury close. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass to let the aromatics open. It is a natural match for oysters and shellfish, white fish and hard, nutty cheeses, and holds its own as an aperitif.
