Description
Louis Roederer is one of the last family owned Champagne houses, working from its own extensive vineyard holdings in the Marne. This vintage rosé is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and an extended period resting on the lees. The colour comes from Pinot Noir, and the wine is finished in the brut range so the red fruit and structure carry the dosage rather than sweetness. Chardonnay lends lift and tension to the Pinot led blend, while the long lees ageing builds the toasty, biscuit character that sits behind the fruit.
The colour is a pale salmon pink with a fine, persistent bead. The nose leads with strawberry and raspberry, backed by white peach and a fine biscuit note from the autolysis. On the palate it is dry and taut, with red currant freshness, a creamy mousse and a long, savoury finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and pairs happily with poultry, white fish and lighter fruit puddings.
