Description
Louis Roederer's Collection 247 is the modern successor to its non-vintage Brut, built from a base year blended with a perpetual reserve held in oak, plus wine matured on the lees to add depth. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir form the backbone of the cuvée, made by the traditional method with a second fermentation in bottle. The lees ageing develops the almond, hazelnut and biscuit character that marks the wine, while the fine bead keeps the mouthfeel lively and precise. This half-bottle suits a stylish aperitif or a smaller occasion.
The wine is a light yellow with greenish reflections and a fine mousse. The nose reveals stone fruit, grapefruit, pear, apple and melon over a touch of white flowers. The palate is lively, showing almond, hazelnut and biscuit with a light toasted edge, the finish freshly structured with citrus and herbs into a long close. Serve at 7 to 9 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and alongside oysters, scallops, sushi, fish and poultry.
