Description
Louis Roederer replaced their old non vintage Brut with the Collection series, each release numbered and built around a perpetual reserve, a solera style library of older wines held in tank and oak that lends continuity and depth. Collection 246 blends a base vintage with these reserves across Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The wine is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and long ageing on the lees, which builds the toast and hazelnut layer under the fruit. A low Brut dosage keeps it dry.
The wine is a bright gold with a fine, persistent bead. Apple, pear and white peach lead the nose, with toasted bread, a light hazelnut tone and a citrus edge. The palate is precise and structured, with orchard fruit over a biscuity, faintly nutty base, closing dry and long. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. A fine aperitif that also handles shellfish, white fish and hard cheeses.
