Description
Louis Roederer created its Collection range as a consistent multi-vintage Champagne, blending a majority base year with reserve wines and a share of the house's Reserve Perpetuelle, a solera-style stock kept from earlier harvests. The wine unites Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from several crus, and part of the reserve component is matured in oak, which adds a subtle vinous depth beneath the fruit. It is made by the traditional method, with three to four years of ageing on the lees in Roederer's cellars before disgorgement, and it is finished in a brut style.
The colour is a light golden yellow with bright reflections and a fine bead. The nose offers citrus, acacia blossom, roasted hazelnut and white-fleshed fruit, and the palate carries a gentle toasted character with ripe orchard fruit and a long, persistent finish. Serve at 9 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass to show the aromatics. It is an accomplished aperitif and pairs with shellfish, fine white fish and a wedge of hard, nutty cheese.
