Description
Distilled in 1950 and bottled in 1981, this Special Reserve 30 Year Old is among the oldest-vintage Littlemills in existence, an outturn of just 216 bottles. It was filled when the distillery, founded in 1772 at Bowling, was in full mid-century swing under Duncan Thomas, and is one of the few casks of that era ever to reach a bottle.
Three decades in ex-Bourbon worked slowly on a light Lowland spirit, the angel's share taking its toll: in a humid Scottish warehouse alcohol leaves faster than water, easing the strength while concentrating the flavour. That this still sits at 53.5% speaks to a vigorous fill.
It carries the deep, gently vegetal maturity of great age, lignin-derived vanillin and slow-built esters folded into the worn Lowland softness. A genuine 1950-vintage survivor, and unrepeatable.
