Littlemill 30 Years Old (1953)

Distilled in 1953 and bottled in 1983 for Italy, this 30 Year Old is one of the rarest Littlemills, an outturn of just 87 bottles matured in Oloroso. Spirit from the distillery's mid-century prime, when its 1772 history was already nearly two centuries old.

Three decades in Oloroso wrapped the light Lowland spirit in deep sherry, dried fruit and nutmeg drawn from the cask's melanoidins. The 38.5% strength tells its own story: in a humid Scottish warehouse alcohol leaves faster than water, and over thirty years it has eased the spirit to the very edge of what may legally be called whisky.

It shows the gentle, sherried maturity of great age, fig and raisin over the worn Lowland softness, oxidation read as deep mellow fruit. Eighty-seven bottles, a 1953 vintage, a lost distillery. A genuine relic.
