Description
Stewart Laing founded Hunter Laing in 2013 with his sons, the name drawn from his own middle name. Distilled in 1988, this 27 year old Littlemill, from cask HL 15212 was bottled in 2016, part of the Old & Rare - A Platinum Selection series. A handful of bottles from a vanished distillery, as rare as Lowland whisky gets.
Twenty-seven years in ex-Bourbon frame its delicate, honeyed spirit.
Bottled undiluted at 57.3%, the American oak adds vanilla over the orchard fruit. The mature Lowland elegance shows, floral and fine. The oak's vanillin and wood sugars lend vanilla and light toffee, the spirit's own esters bringing the fruit. Great age in a dunnage warehouse means the angel's share has taken much of the cask and gently lowered the strength, concentrating what remains.
