Description
Oak Devil is a no age statement blend released under the Dublin Liberties label by First Ireland Spirits, part of the gothic streak of names, Copper Alley, Murder Lane, Oak Devil, that the old quarter inspires. The whiskey inside is a blend of sourced Irish malt and grain, bottled for the European market before the Mill Street distillery came on stream.
Maturation in bourbon oak casks gives the expected sweep of vanilla, honey and soft toffee, with fresh fruit from the malt and a light cereal sweetness from the grain. What lifts it is the strength, 46% rather than the usual 40, which brings more texture and a peppery warmth to the finish and makes it a sturdier pour than most entry level Irish blends.
