Description
Ladyburn is one of Scotch whisky's true ghosts, a Lowland malt distillery set up inside William Grant's Girvan grain complex in 1966 and demolished by 1976. A 1973 vintage bottled in 2000 at twenty-seven years, it comes from ex-Bourbon cask 3223, released for the USA.
More an annexe than a distillery, Ladyburn was a set of four stills at Girvan, made to supply Grant's blends and free up Glenfiddich stock. Over twenty-seven years the gentle ex-Bourbon cask let the oily Lowland spirit soften into vanilla and wax.
Bottled undiluted at 50.4%, the cask's own strength. The ex-Bourbon lends vanilla and coconut through vanillin and oak lactones, with a toffee note over a waxy depth. A scarce single cask from one of Scotland's shortest-lived distilleries.
