Description
Ayrshire is the pseudonym independents use for Ladyburn. Signatory bottled this 1975 for its Rare Reserve Cask Strength Collection, a 40 year old single cask from ex-Bourbon cask 3421, an outturn of 166 bottles. This was distilled in 1975, the final year of a Ladyburn distillery that had run only nine years within the Girvan complex.
The malt came from four pot stills tucked into the Girvan grain plant, made for Grant's blends rather than bottled alone. Forty years of maturation left a deeply waxy, oak-led malt, the fruit softened to honey and dried apple.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.1%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for toffee over an oily, waxy aged depth. A rare old final-year-vintage Ayrshire.
