Description
Independents bottle Ladyburn under the alias Ayrshire, after the Ayrshire county where Girvan sits. The Dutch bottler van Wees released this 1974 for its Ultimate Rare Reserve range, a 37 year old single cask from ex-Bourbon cask 2604, an outturn of 155 bottles. Ladyburn worked for barely nine years within the Girvan grain complex in Ayrshire, closing in 1975.
Ladyburn amounted to four pot stills in the Girvan complex, its spirit made for Grant's blends rather than for bottling alone. Thirty-seven years of slow ex-Bourbon maturation left a waxy, vanilla-rich malt over soft old oak.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.1%. The ex-Bourbon cask gives vanilla and coconut from vanillin and oak lactones, with a maltol toffee edge. The recorded note is a leathery depth over the oily, aged malt. A rare old Ayrshire single cask.
