Description
The Rare Cask Reserves is William Grant's range for its lost distilleries, and this 45 Years Old is one of the oldest Ladyburns ever bottled, distilled in 1973 and drawn from ex-Bourbon cask 3183. An outturn of 93 bottles for Italy. Ladyburn ran just nine years inside the Girvan grain complex in Ayrshire, from 1966 until its closure in 1975.
Ladyburn was never its own distillery, just a set of four stills tucked into the Girvan site, its malt destined for Grant's blends. Over forty-five years the cask turned the light make profoundly waxy and mellow, vanilla folded into aged oak.
Bottled at 45.5%. The ex-Bourbon cask gives vanilla and coconut from vanillin and oak lactones, with a maltol toffee edge, four and a half decades layering an oily, waxy depth over polished oak. A rare old cask from a ghost distillery.
