Description
An Geamhradh is the winter release of Kilchoman's Uniquely Islay Series, named for the Gaelic season. This 10 year old from 2010 was drawn from ex-Bourbon cask 425, an outturn of 241 bottles for Germany. Kilchoman, founded by Anthony Wills in 2005, is the island's only farm distillery.
Kilchoman malts its barley on site and bottles on the farm, a barley to bottle approach rare in Scotch. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask over ten years, the wood frames the young peated spirit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.5%. The cask gives vanilla and citrus, and peat phenols carry the smoke through. The recorded notes run to malt sweetness, a medicinal edge, a faint plastic note, smoke, citrus and cooked fruit. A winter single cask from the seasonal series.
