Description
This Original Cask Strength is a 5 year old from 2009, the young Kilchoman bottled undiluted from ex-Bourbon. An outturn of 9,200 bottles. Kilchoman, the island's only farm distillery, was founded by Anthony Wills in 2005.
Kilchoman malts its barley on site and bottles on the farm, a barley to bottle approach rare in Scotch. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, the wood frames the young peated spirit at full strength.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.2%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and citrus while peat phenols drive the smoke. The recorded notes run to citrus, smoke, a coal-gas edge, fresh fruit, a rubbery note and a dry sandy edge. A young cask strength farm malt.
