Description

This Madeira Cask Matured is a 5 year old from 2016, matured in Madeira casks. A wide release of 17,000 bottles. Founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm, Kilchoman is the only farm distillery on Islay.

Kilchoman malts its barley on site and bottles on the farm, a barley to bottle approach rare in Scotch. Matured in Madeira casks, the fortified wine wood adds a candied sweetness to the young peated spirit.

Bottled at 50%. The Madeira gives candied citrus and a faint tang of burnt sugar from its heated maturation, while peat phenols carry the smoke. The recorded notes run to smoke, a fragrant lift, honey, chocolate, a medicinal edge and a mossy earthiness. A Madeira-matured farm malt.
