Description
Loch Gorm is Kilchoman's fully sherry-matured core expression, named for the dark island loch near the distillery. Matured entirely in Oloroso casks, it is the sherried counterpart to the bourbon-led Machir Bay. The Wills family's Kilchoman, founded in 2005, is the only farm distillery on Islay.
The distillery grows and malts barley on site and bottles on the farm, the barley to bottle philosophy at its heart. Matured in Oloroso casks, the sherry wood wraps the young peated spirit in dark fruit.
Bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with a nutty edge, while peat phenols carry the smoke beneath. The recorded notes run to dried fruit, a nutty note, a sherried character, smoke, malt sweetness and chocolate. The sherried heart of Kilchoman.
