Kilbeggan Traditional is the flagship blend of the Kilbeggan brand, distilled at Cooley in Co. Louth and named for the 1757 Brusna distillery in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath, the oldest licensed distillery site in Ireland, which Cooley restored to working order in 2007. This is the everyday face of the range, a no age statement blend of malt and grain bottled here in 2023 for Europe.
Ex-bourbon casks do the maturing, and the result is a textbook approachable Irish blend: fresh orchard fruit and citrus up front, honey and vanilla through the middle, and a nutty warmth in the finish. At 40% it asks nothing more than a glass, though it stands up well with ice or in a highball, a straightforward introduction to the Cooley side of Irish whiskey.
