Description
Kilbeggan Black is a darker take on Cooley's approachable blend, made at the Co. Louth distillery founded by John Teeling in 1987 and named for the historic Kilbeggan site in Co. Westmeath that Cooley restored in 2007. It is a no age statement marriage of malt and grain whiskeys, built for mixing as readily as sipping, and this bottling was destined for the European market.
Maturation in ex-bourbon casks gives the blend its backbone of vanilla and soft honey, with fresh fruit and a citrus edge from the grain component and a light grip of new oak beneath. Bottled at 40%, it stays true to the Kilbeggan house style, easygoing and fruit forward, a modern blend from the distillery that revived independent Irish whiskey.
