John Power & Son Irish Whiskey, in its Gold Label dress, is a heritage bottling from the John's Lane distillery on Thomas Street in Dublin, the 1791 home of Powers that ran until 1976. Prepared at 43% for the German market and carrying no age statement, it descends from the spicier, more pot still driven school of Dublin whiskey that Powers built its reputation on.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leans on barley sugar, vanilla and a firm clove and ginger spice, with the oily, peppery grip of a mash of malted and unmalted barley. Fuller and earthier than the lighter Dublin blends, it shows the single pot still character that ran through the John's Lane house.
