J. Bally Rhum Vieux Millesime 1993 is a vintage agricole from J. Bally, a Martinique name long associated with dry, oak forward rum and its distinctive pyramid bottle. A single year bottling of this age is a study in patient tropical maturation rather than a quick aged release.

Distilled from fresh cane juice on a column still and matured long in oak, much of it in the island's heat, it leans firmly into wood and dried fruit. The nose is woody and barrel led with dried fruit and a vegetal lift, the palate woody, roasted and faintly bitter on dried fruit, and the finish carries raisin, tropical fruit and lingering vegetal cane. Unsweetened and bottled at 45 percent, it favours slow, contemplative sipping, an elegant, drier old agricole where oak and fruit do the talking.
