Description
This 21 year old Isle of Jura, matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks, carries a smoky thread from one of the distillery's occasional peated runs. Jura mostly makes a light, unpeated malt, which makes the smoke here a quiet exception. The distillery is the lone producer on its remote Hebridean island.
Rebuilt in 1963 for a clean, light spirit, Jura runs the odd peated batch. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks over twenty-one years, the woods carry both the sherried depth and the gentle smoke.
Bottled at 44%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla, the Oloroso dried fruit, with light peat phenols adding smoke. The recorded notes run to an oily texture, seasoned oak, smoke, tobacco, chocolate and dried fruit. A deep, smoky-edged island twenty-one.
