Description
The 18 year old sits in Isle of Jura's older core range, given a red wine cask influence over its longer maturation. Jura is the single distillery on a remote Inner Hebridean island, revived in 1963 after six decades of silence to support the local community.
Built to make a lighter malt than peaty Islay, the distillery's tall stills give a clean spirit that benefits from active wood over time. Matured with a red wine cask influence, the wood adds dark fruit and a drying grip.
Bottled at 44%. The red wine cask gives dark berry and plum with a dry tannic edge over the malt's honeyed core. The recorded notes run to dried fruit, fresh oak, citrus, a sherried note, chocolate and fresh fruit. A richer, older island malt.
