Isle of Jura 12 Years Old

This 12 year old Isle of Jura adds Oloroso sherry to the ex-Bourbon base, a fuller take on the core island malt. Jura is the only distillery on its remote Inner Hebridean island, rebuilt in 1963 to bring work back to a community that had dwindled since the original distillery closed in 1901.

Built deliberately to make a light, Highland-style spirit rather than a peaty Islay one, Jura runs very tall stills for a clean make. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks, the bourbon wood gives the base and the sherry a darker layer.

Bottled at 40%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and coconut, while the Oloroso adds dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin. The recorded notes run to vanilla, chocolate, citrus, dried fruit, fresh fruit and fresh oak. Rounded and gently sweet.
