Description
This official Glen Moray, a 16 year old, from 2005, at 53.6%, 1244 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
At 53.6%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
