A 12 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 2010, at 55.4%, 1194 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.

The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.

At a hearty 55.4% it carries real weight. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
