This official Glen Moray, a 10 year old, from 2014, at 58.5%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation finished in a Tequila cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
At a natural 58.5% it is full and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a green, peppery, vegetal edge from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
