Description
An official release of Glen Moray, a 12 year old, from 2008, at 55.16%, 234 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Finished in a Madeira cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At its natural 55.16% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a nutty, raisined sweetness from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
