Description
A Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, at 40%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the light, fruity spirit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
At 40% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
