Description
A Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, at 40%. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Finished in a Rum cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the light, fruity spirit. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
