From the Alistair Walker Whisky Company, a 9 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2011, from cask 2358, bottled at 58%, one of 238 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.

The spirit was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright green apple and pear. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.

At its natural 58% it is concentrated. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
