Description
The bottler Battlehill Scotch Whisky Co bottled this Glen Moray, a 9 year old, distilled in 2009, bottled at 54.6%, one of 796 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
The spirit was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, light and fruity. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
At 54.6%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
