Description
The bottler Battlehill Scotch Whisky Co bottled this Glen Moray, a 9 year old, distilled in 2009, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright green apple and pear. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
