From the bottler Blackadder, a 31 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 1990, from cask 4563, bottled at 51.5%, one of 104 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.

Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, dried fruit and old oak. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.

At its natural 51.5% it is concentrated. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
