Description
A Glen Moray of a 30 year old chosen by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, distilled in 1987, from cask 35.216, bottled at 53.7%, one of 216 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood layered over the light malt. In its ethereal years the malt is waxy and oxidative, faded esters and a touch of sotolon (maple, dried fig). The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 53.7%, it is rich. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
