Description
The bottler Claxton's bottled this Glen Moray, a 27 year old, distilled in 1995, from cask C22062, bottled at 51.2%, one of 190 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was finished in a Red Wine cask, the wood layered over the light malt. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes.
At a natural 51.2% it is full and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
