Description
The Campbeltown house Cadenhead bottled this Glen Moray, a 25 year old, distilled in 1992, bottled at 50.1%, one of 246 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
Bottled at a cask strength 50.1%, it is rich. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
