Description
The Campbeltown house Cadenhead bottled this Glen Moray, a 20 year old, distilled in 1998, bottled at 52.2%, one of 234 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
The spirit was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At 52.2%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
