Description
From the bottler The Shining Dram, a 17 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2007, bottled at 52.1%. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building the fresh Glen Moray style. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
Bottled at a cask strength 52.1%, it is rich. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
