Description
A Glen Moray of a 17 year old chosen by the London house Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 2007, from cask 5764, bottled at 56%, one of 212 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
At a natural 56% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
