Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, a 15 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 7041174, bottled at 50.7%, one of 90 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
At a hearty 50.7% it carries real weight. A clean, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
