Description
A Glen Moray of a 15 year old chosen by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, distilled in 2007, from cask 7036003, bottled at 54.7%, one of 79 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
At a natural 54.7% it is full and fruity. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
