Description
A Glen Moray of a 14 year old chosen by the bottler Best Dram, distilled in 2007, from cask 5697 + 5699, bottled at 54.6%, one of 433 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the fresh Glen Moray style. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit.
At a natural 54.6% it is full and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
