A 13 year old Glen Moray from the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, distilled in 2008, from cask 705608, bottled at 51.7%, one of 231 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.

At 51.7%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
