Description
A Glen Moray of a 13 year old chosen by the bottler Blackadder, distilled in 2008, from cask 2988, bottled at 58.7%, one of 108 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
At its natural 58.7% it is concentrated. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
