Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd, an 11 year old, distilled in 2008, bottled at 54.6%, one of 318 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. An Oloroso cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
Bottled at a cask strength 54.6%, it is rich. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
