Description
The bottler Drm Mr bottled this Glen Moray, a 10 year old, from cask 180, bottled at 54%, one of 273 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
The spirit was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A Madeira cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
At cask strength 54% it is full bodied. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a nutty, raisined sweetness from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
