Description
A 10 year old Glen Moray from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, distilled in 2012, from cask 35.341, bottled at 60.6%, one of 188 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At its natural 60.6% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
