A 10 year old Glen Moray from the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, distilled in 2012, from cask DL 15927, bottled at 46%, one of 440 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
