Description
A 10 year old Glen Moray from the bottler Blackadder, distilled in 2007, from cask 5688, bottled at 57.6%, one of 192 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
At a natural 57.6% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
